Hello new friend! My name is Pearl Virginia Jasso, unless you’re coming from some of my socials. If that’s the case I’m also known as Perla Ortuno. I was born on April 18th in Southern California. I was born and raised in the IE. I am a daughter of immigrant parents, making me 1st generation Mexican American. I am one of seven children! I have three older brothers and three older sisters… and yes just as you guessed it I am the baby! Call it baby privilege or mommy’s favorite or whatever, I AM HER! Haha. I am a Tia (Aunt) to 12 of my nieces and nephews.
During senior year of high school, my life was flipped upside down. I quickly fell into a season of depression and anxiety. I decided I wanted to leave home… what does every 18 year old do at 18 thinking they have it together?… JOIN THE MILITARY! I served in the US Navy for 5 years. I lived in places like Chicago, Virginia and Bahrain. I have had countless experiences and stories to tell about my time in the service. Nonetheless, I knew that was not the path God had for my life. After my service, I moved back home and have been chasing after Jesus simply trying to be obedient to His word and His plans.
I am the most imperfect person you’ll ever meet. I have absolutely nothing together. And even in my brokenness, hurt, impurities; Jesus still loves me and His plans are greater than my brokenness. It took me years, to understand and genuinely believe that. Jesus put the pieces of my brokenness back together, He had to start from within my heart and spirit so I could truly serve Him wholeheartedly. I strive to grow every single day in His word and the plan He has called for my life. Hence the name ‘IT STARTS FROM WITHIN’.
I pray this blog in the beginning. The beginning to surrender, reconciliation, breakthrough, awakening and communion.

P.S. the name change is not that serious.. Pearl is my actual name, Perla is just how you pronounce it in Spanish. Ortuno is my mother’s maiden name!
